Preservation District · Lee Square · Palafox · Spring Street · Baylen
North Hill is Pensacola's historic preservation district, and the homes in it were built to be looked at. Queen Anne turrets, Victorian gingerbread, wraparound porches, second-floor balconies, steep multi-gable roofs — there is more architecture per house here than anywhere else in the city, and a display that ignores it looks pasted on.
The roofline is the point, and it is complicated. Turrets, dormers, and steep pitches mean far more linear footage than the square footage suggests, and every run has to be cut to the inch or the whole line sags. This is precisely the kind of house where custom-cut runs stop being a talking point and start being the only thing that works.
Preservation rules and original materials come first. Slate, standing-seam metal, original fascia, and hundred-year-old trim will not take a stock clip, and in a protected district there is no room for improvisation. Attachment is matched to each surface, nothing is fastened into historic material, and there is no evidence anything was there once January is done.
Porches, columns, and balconies are where the detail lives. Lit garland on a wraparound rail, wrapped columns, and a properly sized wreath on the front door do more for a North Hill house than adding another run to the roof.

North Hill questions
No. Nothing is nailed, stapled, or screwed into historic material anywhere on the house. Slate, metal, original fascia, and period trim each get an attachment method matched to that surface, and all of it comes off in January.
Yes — that is the work here. Complex rooflines need every run measured and cut to the inch, which is exactly what stops the line from sagging at the corners the way retail strands do.
August or September. These houses take longer to design and longer to install than a standard roofline, so the earlier you are on the calendar the more choice you have on install dates.
